What a powerful statement. But really, what else is there? I had coffee with a friend who is going through a time of...well...transition. Life dealt some unexpected challenges forcing my friend to question life's purpose and step back and take a good hard look. At first she thought her life was falling apart and that she was losing everything that mattered. She felt insecure. She felt ugly and unlovable and unworthy. She felt desperate and hated herself for behaving so desperately. Things had to change. So, my friend went to therapy to try and help her sort things out and, as... More »

Yum. This guy: Jealous? I lurve Nico. He is just so hott and so French and so cute and so hott. Yup, I'm taking my 9-year-old to the So You Think You Can Dance Canada Tour. We were both totally into the show so we are pumped. We're hoping to see a few of our favourite dances, like the Nico Dark Angel one (which I couldn't find on YouTube) and this one: So have fun tonight while me and my boy are hanging with these guys!... Of course I love my children. And, like most moms, I think they are totally the bomb. But part of this is that there are things I truly admire about them. Things that are quirky and unique and represent something that sets them apart. These things, for the most part, are qualities that I didn't or don't have myself. Like my daughter's sheer will and determination. Or my son's empathy and gentleness. And both of their amazing athleticism (credit goes to their dad's genes on this one for sure). One thing I adore about my 9-year-old son is his love of... More »
Today is a good day. A really, really good day. Despite the fact that I slept a total of 3 hours last night waiting, I am on a high. A baby will do that to you. That's right, a baby. You know, their smell, soft skin, round backs. Yum. And I get to snuggle one soon because I am an Aunt again. My "little" sister gave birth to her first child, a beautiful little girl, in the wee hours of the morning today and I couldn't be happier. I just talked to the tired and overwhelmed new mom who recounted... More »

Recently someone sent me this amazing video about what the world will look like for our children. The rate of change and growth of technology is mind boggling and means that it is virtually impossible to visualize our children's future. They will have jobs that don't exist yet using technology that has not even been imagined. Check it out: After watching the video I went on to the creators blog, Karl Fisch, the Director of Technology for Arapahoe High School, called The Fischbowl. The latest post was called "What's the Purpose of School?" and it really got me thinking. If... More »
Actually, the text message I sent to my sister on Saturday morning was "I stoned and bt nyself". I was stoned. I don't even remember sending the message. I don't remember my son helping me to the car. Or sleeping for 2 hours. What I do remember is exactly what I wasn't supposed to remember by getting stoned. This: I had an MRI for my bad back on Saturday. When you have an MRI on your back your WHOLE HEAD has to be COMPLETELY INSIDE the MRI machine. Think coffin. I certainly did. So because of my little claustrophobia thing... More »
When I was a kid we didn't have the massive selection of toys available today. My sisters and I had a giant tub of Barbies and Barbie clothes. We made our own Barbie house out of book shelves, boxes, and tissues. We played boardgames like Monopoly and Yahtzee and coloured in our colouring books. One toy we did have that I adored was Lite Brite. Remember this? Well now there is a new and improved version with four sides on which to create. But the premise is still the same, put the coloured pegs in the appropriate holes, turn off... More »
